President's Letter

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. We’re starting off the new year with a change to our management team, which is now comprised of several our long-term employees who have been promoted into leadership positions. During their tenure here, they have helped the Foundation reach new heights and they have a deep appreciation for the power and potential of the Idaho Community Foundation.

Many of you already know these employees but let me introduce them to you in their new capacity.

Judy Ramos, Vice President of Finance & Operations, will continue to serve in her current capacity, playing an incredibly important role in helping to set the direction of the organization and driving key projects. She supervises Board & Executive Coordinator Mary Stewart, as well as the Accounting Manager Megan Perez and IT Manager Zach Mars

Kris Kamann is the Senior Philanthropic Advisor for Asset Development. Kris will be responsible for driving ICF’s asset development. He supervises our Philanthropic Advisors, Rich Ballou and Peter Faucher, as well as the new Philanthropic Advisor for the South Central/Southwest Region we are currently hiring.

Lisa Bearg is the Senior Philanthropic Advisor for Community Impact and Stewardship. Lisa will drive ICF’s stewardship of existing fundholders and direct our grantmaking activities. She supervises Sarah Wissenbach, who will play a key role in our stewardship of fundholders and grantmaking.

Zach Mars is the Information Technology Manager. Zach oversees ICF’s IT program including our donor database and cybersecurity. Zach supervises Boone Kizer, who manages our donor database and assists with stewardship, as well at the new Database Administrator we are currently hiring.

Megan Perez is the Accounting Manager. Megan oversees the accounting functions of ICF, delivering timely, accurate reports to fundholders, management and the ICF Board.  She supervises Staff Accountants Amanda Flater and Ana Muniz.

Jennifer Kronberg is the Director of Marketing & Communications. She is the main driver of telling the ICF story and coordinates the activities of everyone involved in telling it. She will supervise the new Marketing & Events Associate we are currently hiring.

As we move forward to accomplish our many goals for 2023, I thank all these leaders for stepping up and taking on a bigger role.

Best wishes,
Steve Burns

ICF has more than 70 scholarship opportunities for students seeking assistance with the cost of higher education.

Information and applications for ICF scholarships can be found here. For questions, email Scholarships@idahocf.org  or call (208) 342-3535 ext. 19. Application deadlines vary, but most are due by March 15.

There’s a story behind each of our scholarships. The Alois and Marie Goldmann Memorial Scholarship, was created in 1997 by George and Mary Freund of Idaho Falls in memory of George’s grandparents Alois and Marie Goldmann, who died at Auschwitz.

The Goldmanns were raising George in Austria after he was orphaned. As the Holocaust began, they recognized the danger and purchased a one-way passage to the United States for 11-year-old George. He traveled alone with cash and jewelry sewn into the lining of his coat and was taken in by an aunt and uncle who lived in New York City.

Twin Falls Mayor Ruth Pierce is George and Mary Freund’s daughter.

“My father was so proud of being an American and he passed that along to all of us – how lucky we were to live in America,” recalls Ruth, who moved to Twin Falls in the late 1970s. “We buried him with an American flag because it meant so much to him.”

Goldmann Scholarship applicants write an essay or research paper about a specific aspect of the Holocaust. The scholarship has been awarded to more than 20 Idaho students.
