Donor Advised Funds - Non Endowed

A Donor Advised Fund, commonly known as a DAF, allows individuals, families, or organizations to contribute assets, receive an immediate tax deduction, and recommend grants to qualified nonprofit organizations, schools, libraries and community projects.

There are two types of Donor Advised Funds, Endowed and Non-Endowed. Endowed Funds preserve the principal, using investment earnings to provide long-term, sustainable support. Non-Endowed Funds allow for the use of both principal and earnings, providing more immediate funding for charitable causes but without the permanence of an endowed fund.

With either type of fund, donors can advise on the investment and distribution of the funds, which grow tax-free.

Benefits:

  • Tax Efficiency: Immediate tax deduction upon contribution and avoidance of capital gains tax on appreciated assets.
  • Flexibility: Ability to support multiple charities over time.
  • Simplified Administration: The ICF handles the administrative tasks.
