Over the next decade, an estimated $30.6 billion in assets will transfer from one generation to the next across Idaho. This massive transfer of wealth represents an extraordinary opportunity for communities statewide.
Research conducted by the University of Minnesota Extension shows that if just 5% of this transfer were directed to charitable giving, it would generate more than $1.8 billion in new philanthropic resources for Idaho communities. These funds could support education, healthcare, environmental conservation, arts and culture, and countless other causes that strengthen Idaho's quality of life.
ICF is working with communities across Idaho to help residents understand this opportunity and take meaningful action through planned and legacy giving.
By 2035, more than $30.6 billion is expected to transfer from one generation to the next, growing to $149 billion over 40 years.
If just 5% of this wealth were directed to permanent, local charitable funds, it could create more than $1.8 billion in grantmaking. That's a transformational investment in Idaho's future.
