Through a thoughtful bequest, Don and Diane Masterson created a lasting legacy of care for their community. Their gift established the Masterson Family Fund, an endowed field of interest fund at the Idaho Community Foundation dedicated to supporting organizations that serve individuals living with mental illness.
For Don and Diane, that legacy was a natural extension of the way they lived. For nearly seven decades, Don “Jack” and Diane Masterson shared a life rooted in family, faith, generosity, and a deep love for the Boise community. Married for 68 years, they were known not only for what they accomplished, but for how they made people feel: welcomed, valued, and cared for.
Diane, a registered nurse, was remembered for her kindness, grace, and servant's heart. Friends and family often spoke of her thoughtful handwritten notes, warm hospitality, and unwavering commitment to helping others. Jack, a proud veteran, business leader, and lifelong Bronco fan, was admired for his integrity, humor, and gift for bringing people together through his storytelling and genuine interest in others.
Together, they invested their time and talents in causes that strengthened the fabric of Idaho communities. They volunteered, supported local arts and cultural organizations, championed Boise State University, and were active supporters of NAMI and other organizations that improve lives and create a stronger sense of belonging.
That same spirit continues today through the Masterson Family Fund. Established through a bequest to the Idaho Community Foundation, the endowed fund supports organizations serving individuals living with mental illness—helping provide hope, resources, and connection to Idahoans and families navigating difficult circumstances.
The Mastersons understood that building a stronger community requires compassion for challenges that may not always be visible. Their fund ensures charitable resources will be available year after year for organizations working to strengthen mental health support across Idaho.
