What Is a
Designated Fund?

A Designated Fund is a simple, meaningful way to support the Idaho nonprofits you care about most. You choose one or more charitable organizations to receive annual grants from your fund, and ICF handles the investment management, compliance, and distributions on your behalf.

North Idaho

How to Start a Fund

Starting a Designated Fund is straightforward. Our Philanthropic Advisors will help you select the organizations you want to support, determine the right fund structure, and handle all the paperwork and administration.

Contact us to schedule a conversation about how a Designated Fund can help you make a lasting difference for the organizations you believe in.

Endowed vs. Non-Endowed Funds

Endowed Designated Fund

An endowed fund is designed to last forever. Your contributions are invested for long-term growth, and a portion of the earnings is distributed annually to the charities you've selected.

  • Creates a permanent source of support for your chosen organizations
  • Annual grants are made from investment earnings, preserving the principal
  • Your fund grows over time, increasing its impact

Minimum to establish: $25,000 (can be pledged over five years)

Non-Endowed Designated Fund

A non-endowed fund gives you more immediate flexibility. Contributions can be distributed over a set period or spent down entirely, making it a good option for donors who want a more direct and time-bound impact.

  • Distributions can exceed investment earnings
  • Fund can be spent down over time
  • Ideal for supporting specific campaigns or time-limited needs

Minimum to establish: $25,000
